Carole was crowned Miss Standing Rock to represent her tribe in North Dakota. That was before the horrible medical accident that left her paralyzed and speechless with no hope of recovery. The road through this life changing crisis led her to drugs and alcohol to self-medicate her terrible depression. But Carole’s grit, determination and faith in Jesus Christ helped her overcome her addictions and defy the doctor’s bleak expectations. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Carole can now speak and walk with difficulty. But her unconquerable spirit is healthy and vibrant. “Dig deep and you will find your faith,” she promises. “It’s there.”
